Launch of Poetry Competition 15th JaNuary

Launch of Poetry Competition to pen a poem about Selby Abbey Celebrating 950 Years. Entry forms will be available from 15th January in Selby Abbey & Selby Library and online for ages 7-14.

An opportunity for a selected number of poems to be published in a commemorative children’s poetry book and a selection exhibited in Selby Abbey. The overall winner will be announced on the 30th March at the Families and Communities Day in Selby Abbey.

The invitation is open to all children living within the Selby District.

Rev Cannon John Weetman & Poet Christina Gabbitas will be helping to judge with more to be announced.

Winner of Selby Abbey 950 Celebration Poetry Competition Announced 12.30pm

Author & Actress: Cerrie Burnell – 12.45 – 1.30pm – The Girl With The Shark’s Teeth Celebrated children’s author and former CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell brings you her magical new middle grade adventure The Girl with the Shark’s Teeth. Meet Minnow, a girl with a magical underwater ability, who journeys across the wild deep with her friend Raife on a fearless mission to find her mother. Follow the call of the deep and be immersed in a magical event with mermaids, pirates and plenty of mysteries to be solved.

Join Blue Peter Book Award winner Andy Seed for 30 minutes of silly Stories, funny facts, wacky jokes and entertainment for the whole family. Have a go at the wordplay challenge that’s never been completed!

Salma Zaman – 14.45 – 3.30pm – Bollywood Princes & Princesses
Come and find out what it takes to be a Bollywood Hero or a Princess. Salma will be leading interactive storytelling workshops and you can even learn the Bollywood dance steps to Jai Ho’, and dance like a Bollywood Star!
